Roulette rules for beginners
The roulette history was started many centuries ago. Rules of the game have been constantly changing but since XIX the same rules are used. Roulette is quite simple game. It would be enough to play a bit to learn all rules. Everything will be clear. Therefore mostly beginners are curious about the rules. However experienced gamblers should also be aware of fundamental rules. Such knowledge will help to feel confident regardless of the game (French, European or American roulette).
How it Works
Roulette table consists of roulette wheel and field for betting. Roulette wheel is divided into sections. European roulette has 37 sectors from zero to 36. American roulette includes 0 and 00 sectors. Thus there are 38 segments available.
Dealer spins the wheel clockwise or anticlockwise and drops the ball. The ball stops in one of the sectors which is considered to be winning number. Rules don’t force dealers using special techniques of spinning wheel. However traditionally dealers throw ball oppositely to spinning wheel.
Segments of European roulette have strict sequence: 0, 32, 15 etc. American roulette features different location of segments: 0, 20, 9 etc. 1, 3, 5 and other numbers are in red color; 2, 4, 6 and other numbers are in black color. Zero is located in green sector.
Roulette rules: bets
Roulette betting field consists of 12 rows of numbers from bottom to the top (each row consists of 3 numbers). All numbers are located next to each other. Such system is used to give players the opportunity to place one bet to cover 2, 3, 4 and even 6 neighboring numbers. Moreover there are special sectors covering 12 or 18 numbers:
- 3 dozen sectors: 1-12; 13-24: 25-36.
-
3 column sectors (each has 12 numbers)
- First column: 1, 4, 7 etc;
- Second column: 2, 5, 8 etc.;
- Third column: 3, 6, 9 etc.
Sectors allowing betting on 18 numbers: red, black, 1-18, 19-36, odds, even.
If you wish to place bet on neighboring roulette sectors you can announce bets. Announced bets are used only in European roulette.
- Tier bet covers neighboring wheel numbers: 27, 13, 36 etc.
- Zero Spiel – roulette sector covering two neighboring numbers: 35, 3, 26, 0, 32, 15;
- Voisins de Zero includes Zero Spiel + neighboring 22, 18, 29, 7, 28, 12;
- Orphelins is the bet on all other numbers not included in mentioned above bets.
Winning
It is quite easy to calculate your winnings. All you need to do is to divide 36 into number of sectors you placed your bets on. Then you should multiply your bet on the calculated number. Just keep in mind that initial bet is always included in winnings.
The example: $2 bet was placed on 4 numbers. Roulette ball stopped on one of wagered numbers. The payout will be: 36/4 х $2 = $18 including initial bet. Dealer must add $16 to initial $2 of the player.
Roulette Tips
Roulette generates random results and can be described with theory of probabilities. According to the mathematics, casinos always have advantage. Zero sector gives the edge.
Let’s have a look at the example with red/black bet. In order to get 2x payout a player has to guess the color.
Simple calculations show that odds of winning are 18/37=48,64%. At the same time probability of losing is 51,35%. This difference seems to be quite small but it provides casinos with giant profits.
Gamblers developed many different strategies maximizing roulette odds and profits. However there is no guaranteed way to beat the roulette. What is the reason of that? Some people say that it is all about mystics. If you calculate roulette numbers sum you will get 666!
Meanwhile roulette spins give gamblers biggest odds of winning among all casino games. In addition roulette game rules casinos use are quite simple. Therefore every gambler can try his/her luck!
