Weir family couple won EuroMillions lottery back in 2011^th. They scooped £161 000 000. Chris and Colin decided to spend a big chunk of winnings to the charity. For instance, they sponsored the local football team “Patrick Thistle”. The gamblers are loyal fans of the Scottish football club. Therefore they didn’t have any doubts before making the decision. FC Patrick Thistle will be able to open new youth football academy.

64-year-old Collin told, “as the long-serving fans we knew that the club wants to open new youth academy. We really liked the idea that Patrick Thistle wanted to let local youngsters play football and train. We saw that the club’s management took the idea seriously. Therefore we wanted to help them”.

It should be mentioned that the Weirs regularly spend their winnings on charity. Last February they launched their own fund The Weir Foundation and donated £5 Millions. They also helped to renovate the local sports centre, donated some money to the football club “Largs Thistle” and sponsored 15-year-old tennis player Ross Wilson who trains at Barcelona tennis academy where the Wimbledon champion Andy Murray went to. Moreover they sponsored Gregory Ramsey during his debut seasons in Formula-3.

FC Patrick Thistle management underlined that they didn’t approach the winners of the lottery, “We never contacted them despite we knew that they are fans of our club. The Weirs asked us how they can help Patrick Thistle. We had the dream of opening new youth football academy. Therefore we didn’t need to think what to say”.
