Tom Middleton Won PokerStars EPT Barcelona ME

1st stop of 10th season of European Poker Tour finished in Barcelona. It was UK poker player Tom Middleton who triumphed in Catalonia. Long way to the trophy included 5 days of stressful poker. Middleton has managed to beat the field consisting of 1234 players. Having won 2013 EPT Barcelona ME Tom earned 942K euros.

The final table game started on Saturday. Middleton kicked off the game as the chip-leader. He had more than 10 millions chips. Short-stacked Kimmo Kurko had 2 millions chips but has managed to survive and crawl to heads-up!

When there were just 4 players remaining Middleton and Kurko had almost equal amount of chips (each of them held 8 millions). Kresten Nielsen with 11 millions chips has overtaken the lead. Luca Fiorini was behind with 9,8 millions. Then 20-minutes break were announced. Players were supposed to discuss possible deal. They tried to find an agreement but failed. The game has restarted.

Fiorini and Nielsen were unable to survive and left the table shortly. Kurko had 2 millions chips more than his last opponent. Two remaining players decided to make the deal. They left 942K euros for the future winner and 750K euros for vice-champion.

Heads-up started slowly. Both players didn’t want to risk and played carefully. They battled for several small pots and the action was started. Middleton completed his flush on the river leaving Kurko’s 2 pairs defeated. Then Tom won another huge bank and the Finn got into difficult situation. Kimmo won several small pots but was knocked out shortly. His A4 were well beaten by pocket fives of Midleton.
